Despite our checks, some information may be out of date (hours, closure, relocation). Please check with the business before you go and report any error to us.
Independent listings
No business pays to appear in a list or to be ranked higher. The display order is not a quality ranking. The site never copies Google ratings or reviews; reviews left by visitors on a listing never change the order of the lists.
Intellectual property
The texts and layout of the site are protected. Trademarks, trade names and logos mentioned belong to their respective owners. Photographs of Marseille are published under free licences; their authors and licences are listed on the photo credits page.
Personal data
The site has no user accounts. The only personal data collected is what you enter in a form (name, e-mail address, message). It is used only to answer your request, is never sold or transferred, and is kept for as long as needed to handle it, at most three years after our last exchange.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your data. Use the contact form to exercise it. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
Reviews and e-mail addresses
Who is responsible?
The data controller is For Marseille Lovers, publisher of this website (see "Publisher"). For any question, or to exercise your rights, write to us through the contact form.
What data do we collect when you leave a review?
- Your rating, the title and the text of your review.
- Your first name, published as "First name + initial".
- Your e-mail address. It is never published nor passed on to the business concerned.
- An encrypted, salted fingerprint of your IP address and browser. Your IP address itself is not stored.
- The date you submitted the review, the date you confirmed your e-mail and, if you gave it, the date you agreed to receive our deals.
Why, and on what legal basis?
- To check that the review comes from a real person. We send you a confirmation link (double opt-in), then the review is read before publication. We also let you know by e-mail when it goes online. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in publishing genuine reviews and fighting fake reviews and spam.
- To limit abuse: number of submissions per connection, spam filter. We use the IP fingerprint for this. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting the website.
- To send you our deals and news, only if you ticked the box provided (it is never pre-ticked). Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time, in one click, with the link included in every e-mail.
How long do we keep your data?
- Unconfirmed reviews: deleted automatically after 48 hours.
- Rejected reviews or reviews flagged as spam: deleted after 30 days.
- Published reviews: kept as long as the business listing is online, or until you ask for deletion. The associated e-mail is kept for the same period, as proof of verification.
- Consent to receive deals: until you unsubscribe. After 3 years without any activity on your side, it is withdrawn automatically.
- Technical anti-abuse fingerprints: 1 to 24 hours for counters, and the lifetime of the review for the fingerprint stored with it.
Who can access your data?
Only the For Marseille Lovers team, and our host o2switch SAS (Clermont-Ferrand, France) as a processor. Your data is never sold or rented. E-mails are sent from our own server, at the same host in France.
Google content (photos, reviews and Google rating)
On listings, the "See Google photos and reviews" button loads this content only if you click it. Our server then queries Google Maps Platform. Photos and the map are then displayed directly from Google's servers. Google therefore receives your IP address and your browser's technical information, under its own rules. We do not keep any of this content. Without a click from you, nothing is loaded from Google.
Anti-bot protection
The form may use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots. Cloudflare then processes technical data from your browser, under its privacy policy.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or port your data, or object to its processing. Write to us through the contact form, giving the e-mail address used for your review: we will reply to that address to confirm the request. Deletion erases your reviews and all data linked to your e-mail. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL.
